Director of the Guzheng Ensemble, Yang Yi has toured extensively throughout Asia, Europe and the U.S., and performed in prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall (UK), Historische Stadthalle Wuppertal (Germany), Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. Yang Yi has world premiered many new composition of renowned composers such as Chen Yi, Tan Dun, Lutz-Werner Hesse, Lee Tzyy-sheng, and Zhou Qin Ru. She is the founder and the music director at Eastern Culture & Performing Arts Center (ECPAC), based in West Windsor, New Jersey. She was the soloist with the Bravura Philharmonic Orchestra in its U.S. Premiere performance of Regretted Separation by He Zhan Hao, a piece written for Guzheng solo, chorus and western symphony orchestra.

New to the Chamber Concert Series is the award-winning “Melody of Porcelain” guzheng ensemble of six students of Yi Yang and led by Emily Yang in a performance of traditionalChinese music, at 4:00 pm in the Monroe Twp, High School for the Performing Arts Center. The guzheng, a 21-stringed instrument (similar to a zither), creates a dreamlike, resonating sound that enhances many of the festivities and traditions tied to Chinese history. Coached by world-renowned master guzheng virtuoso Yang Yi, the ensemble consists of regional to international competition award winners, who have been featured in dozens of music festivals, high profile concerts, cultural and community events, college conferences and senior centers. i.e. “The Largest Guzheng Ensemble” Guinness World Records, ICEPN TV Music Festival, Princeton International Chinese Music Festival, Princeton Communiversity Festival of Arts, as well as concerts presented by University of Pennsylvania, Princeton University, Grounds for Sculpture, West Windsor Arts Council, Edison Library, etc.

Emily Yang, age 16, is a high school senior. She has been studying piano and dance at 4 years old, guzheng (21-stringed Chinese zither) since the age of 7, voice since 11, and piano at 4. She has won top prizes on guzheng at many competitions, including Gold & Silver Award (Solo & Group) at the 2017 Macao International Guzheng Competition, Gold award at the 2016 Donghwa Cultural Foundation’s Asian Traditional Performing Arts Competition, Grand Prize at the 2017 National Young Musicians Showcase Competition, as we as First Place in the 2015-2017 New Jersey Music Teacher Association’s Young Musicians Competition. She is a lead singer in her high school's selective choir and A Cappella group. She played major roll in her high school musical as well. Outside of music, Emily is a competitive fencer, who also likes programming and math, and has always been on the high school high honor roll students. She has earned a full score in the 2016 Bebras Computing Challenge.
